Cyberpunk and Steampunk are usually mistakenly related to each other. Although they do have an impact on one another and reveal like-minded admirers, Steampunk is actually an entirely separate movement. Of both, Steampunk is more authoritarian in character and representative of a world that that goes itself off as utopia; when the truth is, is ruled below rigid laws and rules by the powers that be.
That being said…
Steampunk outfits as a style fad look like exactly what they symbolize - a innovative yet underdeveloped design reminiscent of something out of a Jules Verne or HG Wells research fiction novel. Envision an assortment of present day Goth and futuristic Goth folded in to one! The appearance isn't objectionable, and actually is sort of great looking and delivers on a benefit! Picture Edward Scissorhands meets Elvira Mistress of the black matches Xena the Knight Princess matches Sherlock Holmes. Kind of.
It is suitable to use a jacket, but when you don't use one, you need to have braces. You may make the jacket of some luxurious cloth, like brocade or jacquard, and add a related cravat. There are many approaches to wrap a cravat, and you should use a broad tie or a scarf in stead of a cravat, what ever suits your character.
A coat is okay, but you can also make use of a military coat, duster or trench coat. If you are using a trench fur, choose a simple one with processed structure or no structure at all in the lining, or one without any lining. American model trench fur or cycling duster is good.
You can use most shoes with laces, but oxfords or boots (with or without laces) are best. Fabric shoes may be used, however, not sneakers.
It's common to utilize hats when dressing in Steampunk gear, and along with these top hat and leather helmet, you are able to select a bowler or perhaps a fedora. It's a good idea to decorate this cap with anything, preferably manufactured from metal, like a few gear wheels or perhaps a brooch, but this is not necessary.
In the Victorian times both sexes used jewelry. Appropriate items for men are the aforementioned pocket watch, signet rings, cravat hooks and cuff links, if one wears a shirt with sleeves unrolled, and a cravat or tie. It's appropriate for guys to use one earring, but it would then be a material band, and not a jeweled stud. If you intend to wear a wrist watch, select a simple style and physical, analog watch, and wear it on a leather strap. Brooches, specially medals, are good. You may also use a ribbon in a buttonhole, or perhaps a boutonnière.
